Sattva is transparent and luminous. The brilliance of Atman shines forth through sattva which sublimates easily. Rajas is translucent, blurring one’s vision of the transcendental. It takes effort to overcome rajas. Tamas is opaque and completely shrouds the Divine. One has to put in a great deal of effort over a long period of time to eradicate tamas.
