Does the lack of otherness create further problems and make us commit mistakes?

No. Feeling one with people is a function of the mind. The Intellect must be alert and functioning to make good decisions and avoid making mistakes. Oliver Goldsmith compares the village preacher to a mountain. He says, “As some tall cliff that lifts its awful form, swells from the vale, and midway leaves the storm, tho’ round its breast the rolling clouds are spread, eternal sunshine settles on its head.”

So, at the mind and heart level, that’s where we get feelings, emotions, love, and oneness. But the head, the Intellect, must rise above and be completely clear. Exposed to the sun means Atman. Take the example of a parent. The parent loves their children all the time, but when the child does something wrong, the parent must be clear that the child has to be disciplined. The child must be told that they have done something wrong. The child must be corrected, and in the process sometimes parents need to be a little stern with the child. But even while being stern, parents are never free from love. So, the two go together. Similarly, when you are dealing with other people in business and outside in the world, there is no reason to feel otherness or hatred, but your Intellect must be clear to assess the nature of the other person and to know how to conduct yourself and protect your interests when it comes to dealing with people.
