Is life ordained or is there free will?

Both. What you mean by ordained is the sum total of your past actions, emotions and thoughts put together, which drive you in a particular direction. But all the time, every moment of your life, you have free will. When you exercise it, you change your future. You can sculpt a brilliant future for yourself if you exercise your free will judiciously with the intellect and in a particular direction.
