Knowledge is the ultimate purifier so if the intellect is helping us why is our disidentification from intellect important?

Yes this is a good question. We do use the intellect, in fact it is the intellect that takes us to the final state of Realisation. It is the identification with the intellect that is the problem, not use of the intellect. Whether it is body, Mind or Intellect, it is identification that causes sorrow and suffering.
