What is our duty as parents with regards to discipline for teenage and adult children? – Vedanta Vision

What is our duty as parents with regards to discipline for teenage and adult children?

Our duty is that of a gardener. Just as the gardener provides what a seed requires and leaves the rest. Similarly, we need to do whatever we can to promote the growth, the well-being of our children and leave the rest. Now what we are doing is we are trying to control what we can’t control and we are not doing what we should be doing and therefore we are ending up in a mess. While we do this, we must remember that just as a gardener understands that a coconut seed can only grow into a coconut tree, it cannot become a mango tree just because he wants it. Similarly, children are born with their own vasanas, their own nature, their own personalities and they will only grow the way that they are meant to grow in, they can’t change just because you want them to.
